Jay Reviews: Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle

Posted by Jay - September 21st, 2012

This week's review; "Mr. Bungle" by Mr. Bungle. As requested by Platypuspwn

My second requested review, and I hope that it doesn't disappoint! I was able to sit down and listen to this a little more than my last review, but I still need to get a better head start on these things. I've been cutting it close with my last few reviews in keeping my schedule.

And of course, I'm always open to any requests or suggestions. So ask away!

I didn't know Mike Patton was in this band too :O I enjoy the Faith No More album "Epic" was on.

Also, my request remains the same. "Bu-ikkikaesu" by Maximum the Hormone.

I'll think about it, keep your shoes on.

I know you're familiar with the Butthole Surfers, and Mr. Bungle kinda reminds me of them. So my request is Butthole Surfers' Locust Abortion Technician. I have a feeling you'd like it, if you haven't heard it already.

I have not heard that one, but I do like some Butthole Surfers, so I might check it out.

I did enjoy this review, Jay. You have my (unneeded) permission to make as many as you like.

Right on man, I appreciate it. And thanks for the "permission". :P

You should review Scale the Summit - The Collective. I don't know if you're familiar with progressive metal at all, so it could be pretty interesting for you. Plus they're my favorite band.

I'll definitely consider it.

Here are other suggestions because I like the genre collision idea, even if it's more catchy than original.

For your consideration:

Mariachi El Bronx -- Mariachi El Bronx
Alex Clare -- The Lateness of the Hour
Big & Rich -- A Different Kind of Horse
Of Montreal -- Skeletal Lamping
Skindred -- Babylon
Kerli -- Love Is Dead
Electric Six -- Fire

Mariachi El Bronx opened up for Primus when I saw them in 2010, I thought that they were great live. And I actually have that album from of Montreal and I like at least half of the tracks on it a lot.

I don't know about the other bands, but I might pick something out.

You should do something you've not heard, I think personally. It's more exciting and interesting that way, trying something new.

Here's the breakdown of what genres I heard being collided with these groups.

Alex Clare -- soul, dubstep, with a small bit of folk rock
Big & Rich -- country, rap, tiny bit of metal
Skindred -- "ragga metal punk hip-hip" in their own words
Kerli -- "Bubblegoth" is her term, like bubblegum pop and goth music.
Electric Six -- disco, metal, funk, garage rock, New Wave
Maximum the Hormone -- Nu-metal, punk rock, J-pop

If this helps your decision at all.

My last 2 album reviews have actually been albums I've never listened to before previously.

I didn't mean to imply otherwise lol sorry.

I getcha.
